IG1 1NR - Pakwaan indian restaurant in Ilford
It was my parent's marriage anniversary and hence I took them and a friend of mine to an Indian restaurant called Pakwaan which is located on Ilford High road. My friend had booked a table for 4 about 45 minutes beforehand. After our arrival, we immediately got a place to sit as our table was already booked. Although we saw a few people waiting for their table near the reception, which also seemed to be a bar. The staff and waiter's seemed well dressed and nice. For starters we ordered Fish Amritsari and aloo chaat. For maincourse we ordered butter and garlic naans and some sort of mushroom curry, chicken/murgh Punjabi and paneer curry with a few other vegetables like pepper. In drinks we ordered 2 mango lassis, 1 salted lassi and 1 coke. I thought the food was average. I think you'd get that kind of food or better in any decent restaurant in London. The ambience was nice but the live music was very loud. A male and female singers were singing old and new hindi songs. The female singer was nice but the male singer didn't sing very well. He was soon replaced by another male singer who sang very well. However the music and sound was very loud. I had to go to the toilet just to take a break from that irritating sound. My dad and friend also didn't enjoy the loud music. For the food we ordered (mentioned above), the bill came to about £55, which I thought was alright. I'm not sure if the live music is played there every day or not. There were 2 birth days that day. Perhaps they hired the singers. Regarding the food I can't judge by just visiting once. Perhaps you can visit and comment below your experience?
